New Self Defence Club at Fitness First in Norwich!

 

Since the age of 13 Kerri has regularly trained in various martial arts and got her first brown belt at the age of 16 with the Eastern Shotokan Karate association. Kerri has trained in Tae-Kwon-Do, Ju-Jitsu, kickboxing, and has had private boxing tuition from Norfolk boxing superstar Jackson Williams who once fought Amir Khan in the ring!

Recently Kerri has taken up the Korean martial art Kuk Sol Won and entered her first tournament within a month of joining where she received two gold medals and one silver in the 3 competitions in forms, techniques and free sparring - where she had to fight men twice the size of her but still won!

A month later Kerri went on to win two more gold medals and one bronze at the European Kuk Sol Won Tournament once again taking home the gold in the free sparring! Kerri has already passed all her qualifications as a martial artist that are needed to join the JISC Stunt Register and hopes to one day become a stunt artist fighting in Hollywood movies!

Latest news: Kerri's new defence club has been featured in The Eastern Daily Press, regarding setting up classes throughout Norfolk after a recent sex attack in Dereham (Kerri's home town).

   
 

Kerri recently started the Korean martial art Kuk Sool Won and within two months won 4 gold medals, one silver, and one bronze in just two tournaments!

   

Kerri has now set up her own Self Defence Club in Norwich exclusively for women! Aimed at models and pretty girls who are often vulnerable and prone to being attacked, but open to any women over the age of 16 who want to learn how to defend themselves.

This Club is exclusively set up, and run by Kerri who will be personally teaching the girls self defence techniques. The Club will be based at Fitness First at Riverside in Norwich, who are official sponsors of the new Club and we will run weekly classes usually at weekends.

Summer 2010 will see a live model fighting event in Norwich, the best girls from the class will exclusively train with Kerri and a team of professional boxers to put on a live show!

The weekly Norwich class will start by combining basic martial art moves - kicks, punchs, blocks and stances, moving on to more complicated techniques such as throws, locks, holds, and anti-rape techniques. The classes will make women feel more confident about protecting themselves should an emergency situation arise, and let them have fun at the same time!

Throughout the year you'll also find special classes where professionals in the martial arts field will come and teach new techniques, and we are also currently in talks with Norfolk Police about their backing of this project, and officers giving safety talks to the models.

       

What will I gain from the class?

 

Kerri will be focusing on fitness and toning as well as self defence techniques, so expect a boot camp style workout not for the faint hearted! There will be much to gain from the class including:

  • Improved fitness: With strenuous warm ups, press ups and sit ups you'll notice a definite increase in fitness! Combining free sparring and boxing techniques, shadow boxing, and of course skipping - you'll lose weight and feel good! We will focus on individual fitness and always push you that little bit further!
  • Self defense techniques and safety: With safety talks before each class you'll gain the knowledge on how to stay safe whether its staying safe as a model, or walking home at night, to nights out with your friends. You'll learn techniques to use if attacked, and learn how to pack a punch and block attacks if the only option is to fight.
  • Increased confidence: The confidence you will gain from martial arts training not only ensures you know what to do should an emergency situation arise, but also it has been reported that confident body language decreases the risk of attack! You will learn how to use body language to avoid attack, and use this new found confidence in every day life!
  • Toning: We will focus on core strength exercises and toning, martial arts is a sport that uses core strength to deliver punchs and kicks so we will focus on this with yoga exercises, planks, and stomach toning - as this is where the martial arts energy ('Chi') comes from. You'll also see increased flexibility from the stretching you will do!
  • Make new friends: Meet new friends and have fun whilst getting fit and learning a new skill that will keep you safe.
  • Enjoy a free gym pass: Everyone who attends the class will receive one weeks free gym membership to the Fitness First Riverside gym where the classes are held and where Kerri will be training throughout 2010 for her own martial arts competitions and contests!

What will I need to bring?

 

If your new to sport, or martial arts do not worry we will welcome you gently and always work at a level which suits you. There are several things you will need to bring with you, don't worry about exercise mats and boxing gloves and equiptment we have this covered!

  • Wear loose comfortable clothing such as jogging bottoms and a t-shirt. You will be barefoot or in trainers for the classes, depending on what you will be doing. So make sure you have comfortable trainers you can bring.
  • Bring a sports bra as things can get bouncy when you are jumping about! Primark do excellent 'High Impact' ones very cheap if you are on a budget!
  • Bring a bottle of water and a small towel to keep with you during your workout.
  • If you have any health problems please inform Kerri of these before you attend the class, or let Kerri know before you work out so we can accomodate you safely. If you use an inhaler don't worry - Kerri does too! Just bring this with you.
